The MWO-OWWA Washington, D.C., in partnership with the UGAT Foundation, Inc., conducted a Webinar on Parenting from a Distance on 18 March 2023 at 7PM (EST) through Zoom and Facebook Live. A total of fifty-three (53) overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from the US, Mexico, and the Caribbean Islands attended the said webinar which mainly aims to equip our dear OFWs with knowledge on how to deal with the challenges that distance parenting may bring. It includes understanding the issues and emotions that children may face as well as increasing awareness and understanding of the changes in expectations that family members and children in the Philippines may have. Moreover, it allows the OFW-parents to reflect on how they view their role as an OFW, how the expression of love changes and how miscommunication affects their relationship with their children. The speakers during the activity were Fr. Nilo Tanalega, SJ and Ms Leslie Uy of the UGAT Foundation Inc., a Jesuit apostolate, with an advocacy to promote and address the mental health and well-being of the underserved Filipino individuals and families through psychological interventions and family systemic approaches. The MWO-WDC Team, headed by Labor Attaché Saul de Vries, were all present during the online activity. This webinar is conducted by the MWO-WDC in line with the celebration of the 2023 National Women’s Month.
