WASHINGTON, D.C.—

The Philippine Overseas Labor Office-Washington, D.C. (POLO-WDC), through Assistant Labor Attaché Marie Josephine Borromeo, discussed anew the proposal of the Philippine government for a Memorandum of Agreement with the government of Turks and Caicos Islands during its two-day outreach mission on December 9 to 12, 2021.

“Our desire is to come up with MOA that will both serve to uphold the labor laws of both countries specifically on the recruitment and deployment process as well as protect the rights and welfare of our Overseas Filipino Workers,” Borromeo said during their courtesy call before TCI Governor Nigel Dakins CMG.

During the outreach, the team also provided on-site services such as evaluation and verification of employment contracts, POPs-BaM exemption assistance as well as the release of $200 to OFWs who were infected with COVID-19, through the special cash assistance program of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).

OWWA also assisted around 166 OFWs who applied for the renewal of their OWWA membership.###
